SEBI’s Revised Lot Sizes for Index Derivatives - Effective November 20, 2024

SEBI's New Index Derivative Lot Sizes

In line with SEBI’s latest regulation, the minimum contract value for index F&O will need to be at least ₹15 lakhs at the launch of new contracts. To comply with this, NSE will revise the lot sizes for all new index F&O contracts introduced from November 20, 2024, onwards.
 
Key Points to Note:
  • Current Contracts: Existing weekly and monthly index F&O contracts will retain their current lot sizes until they reach expiry.
  • New Contracts: Revised lot sizes will apply only to newly introduced contracts after the specified date.

Notes on Quarterly and Half-Yearly Contracts: The lot sizes for quarterly and half-yearly contracts will be updated as follows:

  •   Nifty: Change effective end of day December 26, 2024
  •   Bank Nifty: Change effective end of day December 24, 2024
  •   Sensex: Change effective end of day December 27, 2024
Clients holding positions in quarterly or half-yearly contracts must ensure these positions are in multiples of the new lot sizes to avoid any issues after the change.
