An index is often the first thing traders look at during the trading day. It provides a quick view of how a market or sector is performing, but understanding an index usually involves looking at more than its current level.
You may want to study how it has behaved across different periods, analyse derivatives activity, explore the companies included in it, understand its composition, or continue into detailed technical analysis.
That’s why we built Symbol Details for Indices on FYERS. It brings these different layers of information together, helping you understand an index before deciding what to explore next.
Start with the Overview
The Overview brings together the information you may want to check first before exploring a specific aspect of the index in greater detail.
Analyse Index Movement with Price Chart and Price Analysis
The Price Chart shows how the selected index has moved during the trading session. Along with the current level and daily change, you can switch between different periods to see whether the movement is limited to the current session or part of a broader trend.
A technical observation may also appear above the chart, highlighting a relevant development in the index. When you want to study the setup further, you can open the complete chart directly from this section.
Price Analysis adds context by placing the current level within its trading range across different periods. This makes it easier to see whether the index is trading near its recent high, low, or somewhere in between.
The supporting Price Stats show the day’s open, high, low, previous close, and 52-week high and low.
Analyse Derivatives Activity with Option Analytics
For indices with derivatives contracts, options activity adds another layer to the analysis.
Option Analytics shows Open Interest, Change in Open Interest, Put-Call Ratio (PCR), and Max Pain, helping you study how activity is developing around the selected index.
You can also switch between supported indices such as NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, SENSEX, and BANKEX to compare derivatives data.
Explore Market Views with Strategies
Once you have formed a market view, the Strategies section lets you explore predefined options strategies that may align with it.
Browse strategies under Bullish, Bearish, Neutral, and Any Direction. Each card shows the strategy structure, payoff graph, and a brief explanation of how it works.
From here, you can explore more strategies, create one using Strategy Builder, or continue to Automate.
Analyse Historical Trends with the Seasonality Chart
The same index can behave differently across months and quarters.
The Seasonality Chart shows how the selected index has performed during different periods in previous years. You can review average returns, compare performance across individual years, and see how often the index ended the period positively or negatively.
These patterns are based on historical performance and do not predict future returns. For a more detailed view, you can continue to Seasonality Insights.
Continue Your Analysis with Tools
The Tools section connects the selected index to other relevant FYERS features.
From here, you can open Scalper, study the Option Chain, continue to Strategy Builder, or move to the Indices Dashboard.

Explore Companies with Constituent Stocks
The Constituent Stocks section lets you review the companies included in the selected index.
You can compare their recent performance, market capitalisation, PE ratio, ROE, PAT margin, and trading range to better understand the businesses represented in the index.
The available period can also be changed to compare performance across one week, one month, or one year.
Explore the Insights Tab
The Overview gives you an initial understanding of the index. The Insights tab helps you learn more about its constituents, composition, and risk characteristics.
See What Is Moving the Index with Index Movers
Index Movers shows which stocks are having the biggest positive or negative impact on the index during the day.
A stock’s Contribution is measured in index points and depends on its price change and weight in the index. This means a stock with a higher weight can have a larger impact on the index even when its price move is relatively smaller.
Top Positive Contributors are adding the most points to the index, while Top Negative Contributors are pulling the most points down.
Understand Index Composition with Allocation & Risk
The composition of an index can vary significantly depending on its sector exposure and the size of the companies included in it.
Allocation & Risk shows how the selected index is distributed across sectors and market-cap categories. It also presents measures such as Beta, Sharpe Ratio, Treynor Ratio, Jensen Alpha, and Standard Deviation to help you review its risk and performance characteristics.
Continue with Technical Analysis
When you want to examine the index more closely, continue to the dedicated charting and technical sections.

It provides another way to examine trends, momentum, and important technical levels before returning to Charts for a closer view.
