A Deeper Insights Into Your Mutual Funds

When you’re analysing a mutual fund, returns are usually where you start. You check its past performance, compare it with other funds, and see whether it fits your investment goals.

But returns are only one part of the picture. You may also want to understand where the fund invests, which stocks and sectors have the highest exposure, how its portfolio has changed over time, and who’s managing those investments.

That’s why we’ve enhanced Scheme Details for Mutual Fund on FYERS. We’ve made it easier to analyse this information, understand how a fund is managed, and analyse the details that matter before investing.

Understand How the Portfolio Is Concentrated in Holdings Tab

Let’s say you’re analysing Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund, which has delivered a 12% annualised return over the last three years. The return gives you a starting point, but what does the portfolio actually look like?

The Holdings tab helps you take a closer look at its investments.

  • Portfolio Allocation shows how investments are distributed across equity, debt, and other assets.

  • Market Cap Allocation shows exposure to large-cap, mid-cap, and small-cap companies.

  • Top Holdings helps you identify the stocks and sectors with the highest exposure.

  • Top 10 Holdings and Top 10 Sectors show exposure percentages, month-on-month changes, and portfolio concentration.

For instance, if the top 10 holdings account for 51% of the portfolio, you know that more than half of its investments are concentrated in those holdings.

Knowing what Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund holds today is useful. But it’s equally important to see how those holdings have changed.

Under What the Fund Bought and Sold, you can review:

  • Holdings Where Exposure Increased and Holdings Where Exposure Decreased to compare monthly exposure.

  • Fresh Entries In The Portfolio and Complete Exits From The Portfolio to identify stocks added or removed.

  • Sectors Where Exposure Increased and Sectors Where Exposure Decreased to analyse changes in sector allocation.

Consider a scenario where banking exposure moves from 20.91% in August to 20.49% in September, while realty exposure increases from 6.81% to 8.72%. These figures help you understand how the portfolio’s sector allocation is evolving.

Analyse Fund Returns and Rankings in Overview Tab

Once you understand what Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund invests in, the next question is how its performance compares with similar funds.

The Overview tab helps you evaluate returns in context.

  • Returns & Ranking compares Fund Return, Category Average, and Rank Within Category across different periods.

  • Annual and Absolute Returns help you examine performance over different timeframes.

  • Other Funds in This Category lets you compare similar schemes.

Suppose a fund has delivered a three-year CAGR of 12.28%, while the category average is 10.27%. This comparison helps you evaluate its performance relative to its peers.

Know Who’s Managing Your Investments

Once you’ve looked at a fund’s performance and portfolio, it’s worth understanding the people responsible for managing it.

The Fund Managers section gives you a closer look at their experience and responsibilities.

You can analyse AUM Managed, Schemes Managed, and Managing This Fund Since, along with other schemes under their management and their performance.

These details give you more context about the fund manager’s association with the scheme and the investments they oversee.

Understand the Scheme Before Investing in About Tab

Beyond performance and portfolio allocation, it’s important to review the scheme’s investment objective, costs, and minimum investment requirements.

The About tab brings these details together.

  • Scheme Details includes the expense ratio, exit load, benchmark, and settlement cycle.

  • Investment Objective explains what the scheme aims to achieve.

  • Minimum Investment shows the investment requirements.

  • AMC Details provides information about the asset management company.

For example, if you’re planning a SIP of ₹5,000 a month in Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund, you can check the minimum investment requirement and applicable costs before investing.
