Index charts on FYERS now include Volume, calculated from traded shares of underlying stocks. You can finally analyse participation on indices like NIFTY 50 and BANKNIFTY using actual trade data, not just price.
Real volume on index charts
Until now, index charts only showed price, which made it hard to judge the strength behind a move. You couldn’t see whether it was backed by actual trading activity. That changes now. Volume on index charts lets you track participation directly, and use indicators like Volume, VWAP, and Volume Profile with accurate data.
That changes now. Index charts on FYERS now display Volume for selected indices, calculated from the actual traded shares of their constituent stocks. Each bar shows real market activity within the index, not turnover or futures volume.
How index volume is calculated
From 01 July 2025 onward, here's how we calculate index volume:
Each Volume bar on the chart represents real market activity. For each interval, whether 1-minute or daily, we add up the exchange-reported traded volume of all current stocks in the index.
If a stock didn’t trade in a bar, its contribution is zero
Index rebalancing is handled from the effective date, so the chart stays accurate over time
This gives you a cleaner read of what the market is actually doing beneath the index price.
Where you can use it
Index Volume is now available for:
NIFTY 50
BANKNIFTY
MIDCPNIFTY
FINNIFTY
NIFTYNXT50
SENSEX
BANKEX
It works across all platforms: FYERS Web, FYERS App (Android and iOS), and FYERS Trader. If Volume was already part of your layout, it now automatically loads for these indices starting from 01 July 2025.
Better use of volume tools
Now that charts show real participation, you can use indicators like:
VWAP and Anchored VWAP
Volume Profile (Fixed and Visible Range)
Net Volume
OBV and Price Volume Trend
Volume Oscillator
These indicators now pull data from real trades instead of synthetic inputs. That makes your breakout scans, day comparisons, and VWAP-based analysis more reliable.
What this changes in your daily routine
Let’s say BANKNIFTY moves 1.2% in the first 30 minutes. With real Volume, you can view how actively its constituent stocks traded during that move.
If you use Volume Profile on NIFTY 50, your visible range now reflects actual traded zones. That makes it easier to find meaningful price areas and structure your trades around them.
Open a chart for any supported index. Add the Volume indicator. Set the timeframe to 5-min or daily. You’ll see Volume from 01 July 2025 onward.
Apply volume indicators like Anchored VWAP to spot high-activity zones. You’ll notice the difference.
